Painting of Instruments by Breuggel

Who are we?

Perrin & Associates Fine Violins was established in Baltimore in 1994 with a vision to provide violins, violas, cellos, and repair and restoration services to the professional and the aspiring musician. We create an environment where all string players feel comfortable talking with us about their instruments, trying a variety of instruments and bows, discussing repair options, and trying new accessories. We work hard to have a wide range of instruments on hand—from lovely old Italian classics, fantastic instruments by great modern makers, to quality instruments for the beginner. We also have a wide range of bows, from contemporary Brazilian to rare French.

Rodger Perrin

Rodger Perrin repairing a violinRodger has been interested in violins since he was very young. As a student at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and Hartt College of Music, he had to suffer with an instrument with issues. “If that violin had been valued by its weight, it would have been worth a fortune." The first time he played a good instrument, he realized that a fine instrument can make a huge difference in a person’s enjoyment, practice, and career. "Because of my early struggle, I decided that I would like to help musicians –young and old– obtain instruments that work for them." Whether an instrument costs a thousand or fifty thousand, it should be stable, high quality, and suit the player. "I really like people to try a number of instruments so they can find one that they like to play, and that sounds and looks right to them."

Violin making was a natural extension of Rodger's love of music, craft, and art. After graduating from the Violin Making and Restoration program at North Bennett Street School in 1988, Rodger worked for David Wiebe, a noted violin maker, and then joined Bein and Fushi, Inc. where he repaired, restored, and adjusted instruments. Rodger returned to North Bennett Street School where he taught Violin Making and Restoration. He established Perrin & Associates Fine Violins in Baltimore in 1994.
